It takes a lot of courage to stand in front of people and speak. It takes even more courage to dance. Yet this is exactly what these competitors have offered to do. The contestants of Brookfield’s Dancing Stars Gala will spend the next few weeks learning to chase, dip and twirl their way across the dance floor. The Stars are not in it for prestige or personal gain but rather to raise funds from friends and supporters like you to help those in need. The funds raised will help women, children and families in our community receive free services and programs offered by Family & Children’s Aid and the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury.

All donations made to the teams go directly to the charity. All costs related to the event and Gala have been provided by the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Brookfield or one of our great patrons. Each dollar donated is a vote for your favorite dancer. If you would like to make an offline donation, please contact Matthew Ames “Event Coordinator” at 203-775-6588 to make arrangements.

Debbie Lalin Finkel - Playmaker at Family & Children’s Aid

After graduating from Syracuse University with a dual degree in Television Production and Child & Family Studies, Debbie began her career at Nickelodeon. She was the Production Manager for the Kids’ Choice Awards and Producer for Double Dare and Family Double Dare. She received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Series as well as the George Foster Peabody Broadcasting Award as a result of her work on “Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?” for PBS.

Debbie has a passion for working with young children that has been present her entire life. She is an active volunteer at Family & Children’s Aid and has become a foster parent, providing a safe and loving home to children needing temporary placement as they manage traumatic and difficult times.  Debbie is a certified Playmaker through the Life is Good Foundation, whose mission is to spread the power of optimism to help kids heal from the devastating impact of early childhood trauma. She is also certified in children’s yoga instruction, multi-sensory reading instruction and animal assisted therapy activities.  In her spare time, she enjoys event planning, interior design, as well as practicing several energy healing disciplines.

To raise awareness and funds to support the wonderful programming at Family & Children’s Aid, Debbie plans to dig deep (real deep) and channel her sixteen-year-old self where she hopes that her cheerleading, gymnastics and athletic muscle memory will kick in to help her dance moves shine.

Debbie’s greatest accomplishment and pride, however, will always be her two beautiful adult children, Chelsea and Jared. She lives in Redding with her therapy dogs Dulce & Leo.
